Liz Truss will call on the prime minister to cut taxes in a bid to “revive Conservative values” in a speech today.
The former PM will join former cabinet allies in a rallying call to free the UK from 25 years of “economic stagnation” at an event at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester later today.
She will call on Rishi Sunak to cut business taxes in the Autumn Statement next month, including knocking corporation tax back to 19%, and to “make the case for Conservatism again”.
Levelling up secretary Michael Gove has also said he wants to “see the tax burden reduced before the next election”.
“We should incentivise people to work harder, we should make sure that they’re better rewarded for the enterprise, the effort, the endeavour that they put in,” he said.
The chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, has already said that there is not enough money to cut taxes in the autumn statement.
