Truss returns with Growth Commission

Former prime minister Liz Truss has returned to the public sphere, convening a 13-member Growth Commission to restore credibility to her “pro-growth” agenda.

The PM for 49 days, who presided over a mini-budget that included £45bn of unfunded tax cuts, will use the commission to make the case for regulatory and competition reforms on tax, planning and trade.

The commission will launch today with a 33-page report.

“In the post-Covid period, the UK is one of the few international economies where GDP per capita is actually falling,” the report says, without mentioning the impact of Brexit, a growth-inhibiting factor that has been unique to the UK.
