Augusta Capital, backed by the Reuben brothers, the Lyons family, and HBOS, is in bid talks with the McCarthy & Stone.
So is Permira which has linked with Barclays Capital to make a joint approach for the retirement homes builder.
The talks value the company at more than £900m. Citigroup is advising Permira and Barclays Capital and NM Rothschild are advising Augusta.
