Two mines are facing closure.
A decision on Britain’s last tin mine, South Crofty, near Redruth in Cornwall, has been deferred after the staff agreed a pay cut. But unions are expecting RJB Mining, Britain’s biggest coal group, to announce closure of the Ashdordby pit, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, soon.
