Two more TJ Hughes’ stores sold to Lewis’s

Administrators of TJ Hughes have completed a second deal to sell two more stores to Lewis’s Home Retail.

The group’s stores in Widnes and Newcastle have now been transferred to Lewis’s Home Retail. It follows the sale of the group’s flagship store in Liverpool, together with stores in Eastbourne, Glasgow and Sheffield, to the same purchaser on 8 August.

Joint administrator Tom Jack at Ernst & Young said: “We are delighted to have completed another deal, which protects further jobs across the North, and brings the total number of jobs saved to 576.”

The joint administrators continue to seek a sale of the company’s remaining business and assets as a going concern, while also trading stock through the group’s remaining store portfolio.

TJ Hughes collapsed into administration in June. The retail group was founded in 1912 and its head office is in Liverpool. It was hit by the withdrawal of credit insurance for its suppliers in March.
