The National Grid will invest £500m to tear down some of the ugliest and most obtrusive pylons which blight some of the nation’s best countryside.
A shortlist of eight rural areas in England and Wales, including the New Forest, the Brecon Beacons, the High Weald and the North Wessex Downs will be allocated funds to put the lines underground.
