U+I has received planning consent today for the regeneration of Equipment Works, a £130m mixed-use project delivering homes and workspace on Blackhorse Road in Walthamstow.
It received a resolution to grant planning from Waltham Forest Council for 337 new homes, 24% of which are affordable, and 18,830 sq ft of commercial floorspace.
The scheme is being delivered in partnership with the landowner, Parkdale Investments. It is part of the Blackhorse Lane Area Action Plan, which aims to deliver 2,500 new homes and 1,000 new jobs over the next 10 years.
Simon Hesketh, director of regeneration at U+I, said: “There is already substantial investment in the Blackhorse Road area and this resolution will unlock the potential of the Equipment Works site providing the missing link between neighbouring proposals.”
The commercial space within the development is predominantly targeted at the start up and small business community.
Equipment Works was once home to Associated Equipment Company Factory in 1908 and motorised London buses were manufactured on site until 1927.
Grant Mills Wood advised Parkdale Investments on the project. The scheme has been designed by DLA Architects.
