UK Coal rose 4.5p to 133p on hopes that Alchemy Partners would return with another offer.
Alchemy is understood to have been involved in recent overtures to UK Coal which has more than £200m of underdeveloped property assets which have attracted property developers.
ATH Resources has ruled itself out of any bid for UK Coal.
