UK construction activity fell at the fastest rate since 2009 in July, following June’s Brexit vote.
The reading of 45.9 in the Markit/Cips purchasing managers’ index was the lowest since June 2009 and was down slightly from 46 in June. Any reading below 50 indicates a contraction in activity.
Commercial activity saw the sharpest decline, falling at the fastest rate since December 2009. Housebuilding fell for the second month in a row, although the pace slowed from June.
