UK house prices headed lower in August, falling 0.1% on the month, figures from Nationwide showed.
The on-year rise of 2.1% was down sharply from 2.9% in July and equalled a four-year low recorded in May.
The slowdown in house price growth to 2%-3% in recent months is consistent with signs of cooling in the housing market and the wider economy, chief economist Robert Gardner said.
