UK house prices up 2% in the three months to May

UK house prices rose 2% in the three months from March to May compared to the three months ended February, data from the Halifax showed. On the month, prices edged down 0.1% in May, leaving the average price at £196,067.

Volumes fell 3.4% in the three months to April, to 97,020. Mortgage approvals rose 9.9%.

Homes for sale were at multi-year lows, while the number of new listings fell again in April.
