Total household wealth exceeded £10trn in 2016 following a £892bn increase during the year, according to figures from Lloyds Bank.
Around £431bn of the increase was attributable to housing wealth, reflecting a 183,000 increase in the number of homes and a 4.9% rise in the average house price.
Residential property and financial assets have risen in value by £3.9trn over the last 10 years, a 59% increase. That compares with a rise of 39% in prices and 37% in gross household income.
