UK property taxes highest in developed world

UK property taxes are the highest in the developed world, analysis by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development show.

Property accounted for 12.7% of total taxation in the UK in 2014, well above the 5.6% average across the 35 OECD member countries.

The UK is one of five countries where property taxes exceeded 10% of total tax revenue, the others being Australia, Canada, South Korea and the US.
