The UK’s third-longest pier is being marketed for sale.
The New Walton Pier Company is seeking around £2.5m for the Walton on the Naze pier in Essex. The 2,610ft-long structure, which was built in 1898, is a busy tourist attraction.
The firm, which acquired the attraction in 2005, is now selling to reinvest the money into its business.
In the year to March 2011, the pier had a £1.3m turnover.
Tim Gooding, director of Christie + Co, which is advising New Walton Pier Company, said: “We are expecting major interest for this unusual business. The pier has been on the market for just a week, but it is already generating significant attention. The unusual nature of piers helps them attract demand. We know they sell, too. Piers generate money and are really no different to any other business.”
