UK to ‘skirt recession’ as private sector picks up

The UK economy is on course to “skirt a recession”, after the private sector expanded at its fastest pace in seven months.

The latest “flash” composite purchasing managers’ index from S&P Global and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply has risen to 52.5 in January from 52.1 in the previous month, beating City analysts’ expectations.
