UKGBC chief joins London sustainability commission

The mayor of London has appointed Julie Hirigoyen, chief executive of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), as a commissioner to the London Sustainable Development Commission (LSDC).

Established in 2002, The LSDC advises the mayor on sustainability issues.

Hirigoyen has been appointed alongside nine other new commissioners, drawn from a diverse range of industries.

They will serve alongside the newly appointed chair, Ashok Sinha, and existing commissioners, to help the city meet the challenges of a rapidly growing population, rising inequality, and mitigating climate change.

Hirigoyen was appointed chief executive of UKGBC in April 2015 and was previously UK head of sustainability and an international director at JLL. She sits on the Green Construction Board, the Igloo sustainable investment advisory committee, the ULI UK sustainability council steering committee and the Carbon Trust advisory panel. She also chaired the British Property Federation’s sustainability committee for two years.

Hirigoyen said: “With the draft London Plan hot off the press, I’m excited to be collaborating with this range of inspiring individuals to advise on sustainability in the capital and support the delivery of the mayor’s ambitions for clean growth.”
