Under 40s give up on buying homes

More than 40% of adults aged under 40 have given up on the prospect of owning their own home.

According to a study by Zoopla, non-homeowners in the same age group are now more likely to be living at home with their parents than planning to buy a property.

Some 38% of those under 40 who earn more than £60,000 can be counted amongst the “guppies” – those who have “given up on property”, as opposed to their “yuppie” (young urban professional) parents.

Just one in five of the younger generation think they will “definitely” be able to buy a house within the next decade.
