Consumer goods giant Unilever is facing a threat to its plans for a new 250,000 sq ft shed at West Thurrock, Essex.
Wildlife charity Buglife has warned the local council that approving the plans would be unlawful on three counts. The charity, whose president is feminist Germaine Greer, claims no invertebrate surveys have been carried out, the current habitat has been inaccurately assessed, and that there is a lack of mitigation in the plans to house any potential wildlife.
A decision is expected later this month.
The threat comes as developer Oakgate was forced to put its £90m Monks Cross scheme in York on hold following the discovery of a newt population.
