Student housing developer and manager Unite has been given the go ahead for a 442-bed scheme on Trenchard Street, Bristol.
The £20m development will comprise a mixture of cluster flats, with communal living and kitchen spaces, and self-contained studios. It is adjacent to the group’s 390-bed Unite House scheme, which the developer said offered operating efficiencies through the sharing of staff and facilities.
The site, which has been owned by the group for a decade, was previously used as an ice rink. It closed in October.
Development director James Hunt said: “Higher education is a thriving sector in Bristol and the universities’ growth plans will further increase demand for high-quality student accommodation. This scheme will also help the local economy by bringing a further 442 students and their associated spending power into the city centre, providing a boost for local businesses, as well as alleviating the pressure on local private housing. The redevelopment will also create a number of jobs, both during construction and in the on-going operation of the property.”
