A businessman who supports Manchester United is attempting to block Manchester City’s plans for a £100m development.
Shaun O’Brien has set up a website, Unite Against City, offering blocks of land at his vehicle recovery company near City’s Etihad Stadium, which the club is proposing to redevelop.
City want to spend £100m transforming a run-down 80-acre plot near their ground into a new training complex, including a 7,000-capacity arena, community facilities and a sixth-form college.
O’Brien has reportedly rejected £1m from City for his land and a compulsory purchase order to try to force him to sell at market value has now been issued.
O’Brien is offering plots of his land at OB Trucks, on Quinn Street, for £250 per sq ft. He says he hopes to sell a minimum of 5,000 plots, which would total £1.3m.
