The University of Manchester is on the hunt for a student housing partner to undertake the £400m redevelopment project at its Fallowfield campus.
The contract, valued between £275m and £400m, involves the design, construction, financing and operation of new student halls.
The university is progressing an outline planning application which would result in around 5,400 beds across the Fallowfield campus – an uplift of 950 beds.
The redevelopment will be delivered in multiple phases and includes the demolition of Owens Park Tower, which has been closed for several years.
Simon Merrywest, director for the student experience, University of Manchester said: “The proposals for the redevelopment of this area of the Fallowfield campus will strengthen the university’s ability to offer a world-class, supportive student experience in well-located, good-value, quality accommodation.
“This redevelopment provides an opportunity to widen the choice and supply of student bedrooms while ensuring they are fulfilling the requirements of future students studying at the university.
“Through creating these welcoming and inclusive spaces, it helps create a positive sense of place for our students as they live, learn and thrive within the surrounding community.”
The partner will be responsible for the construction of the project as well as ongoing maintenance responsibility for 50 years, starting from 30 September 2025 until 2075.
The deadline for submissions is 20 September 2023.
