University of York plans bio business park

The University of York is to launch a hunt for a partner to develop a bio business park for small to medium-sized enterprises.

The facility will be located close to the university subsidiary Biorenewables Development Centre’s main premises to the east of York city centre.

It will provide accommodation, access to technical facilities and support for 20 businesses over an initial three-year period. The project is expected to extend to up to 25 years.

Development will be part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which aims to support investment in employment and innovation.

The selected partner will be required to provide immediate access to land with the potential for expansion, on top of a £2m cash contribution.

Interested parties must apply before 26 June. The university will select a partner by 1 July and submit an application for the finance by the end of July, which will include the nominated delivery partner and designs. Construction is expected to be completed by mid to late 2022.
