Unusual lots push Shonki’s total to £3.6m

Shonki Brothers’ latest Leicester auction raised £3.6m from 21 lots, including a bakery, an art nouveau building and a karate club.

Seven of the lots sold prior and 11 were sold in the room, reflecting an 86% success rate. Sales were up compared with the three preceding auctions, but did not exceed 2015’s highest total of £4.6m, which was achieved in February.

An empty ground-floor/basement shop near Leicester city centre, in a five-storey block with flats above, sold for £105,000 off a £50,000 to £75,000 guide.

Other lots sold included a 2,001 sq ft café bar in an art nouveau building in Leicester, guided at £250,000 to £275,000; a 30,570 sq ft bakery in Coalville, Leicestershire, guided at £180,000 to £200,000, and an 8,247 sq ft building used as a restaurant, karate club and dance studio, with a £52,000 pa income. All were bought for an undisclosed amount.

The sale took place at Leicester Race Course on 25 November.
