Upton gets go ahead for Brighton project

Richard Upton’s Cathedral has been given the go ahead to restore Brighton’s historic Moulsecoomb Place Manor House, Tithe Barn and gardens.

Plans for the £150m scheme, which will see the existing student accommodation on Lewes Road demolished and replaced with 566 rooms across four buildings, ranging from four to 15 storeys, 1,000 sq ft of new community space developed and major public realm improvements, were submitted in January.

The Studio Egret-designed plans will also see the Manor House and Tithe Barn redeveloped to deliver a public house, restaurant and events space. Moulsecoomb Social Club is also being offered the opportunity to work with the developers to restore the building and build its membership.

Upton plans to hold an events programme inside the listed buildings and in the gardens at Moulsecoomb Place to enliven the area year-round and bring together the local communities.

The scheme is one of a number of projects Upton is bringing forward under his new brand Are You?
