The judges have deliberated and the shortlist is out. Here are the projects and organisations that impressed in the inaugural MIPIM UK Awards, created to recognise and reward the efforts of developers and their partners from the private and public sectors working to revitalise cities across the UK. The winners will be revealed next month at MIPIM UK.
Regeneration Project of the Year
Dundee Waterfront
The 3rd most active regeneration project in the UK, Dundee Waterfront is a £1bn transformation that encompasses 593 acres of development land stretching 4.9 miles along the River Tay.
2014 Commonwealth Games venues
As host of the 20th Commonwealth Games, Glasgow showcased over £2bn of new purpose-built and redeveloped Games venues.
Newcastle Science Central
Science Central is one of the biggest urban regeneration projects of its kind in the UK, a £250m redevelopment on the site of the former Scottish & Newcastle brewery. The Core, the first building on site, will be open for business in autumn 2014.
PRS Project of the Year
Taberner House, Croydon
Essential Living has agreed to forward purchase the proposed 32-storey tower within the scheme and will provide 230 bespoke PRS apartments.
Get Living London
Get Living London is the residential owner and rental management company behind East Village, at the former London 2012 Athletes’ Village. Get Living London manages 1,439 homes at London’s newest neighbourhood.
London Road, Barking
London Road, Barking is a purchase agreement with Bouygues Development of 100 purpose-built rental units. Grainger has been heavily involved with the design of the building and will manage the units after completion.
Future Project Award
Piccadilly Circus Underground Station
BuckleyGrayYeoman was asked by TfL to refurbish the Grade II-Listed Piccadilly Circus Underground Station. The proposals include the restoration of the Grade II listed Art Deco interior and major improvements to the quality of the retail space around the perimeter of the station hall.
The Earls Court Masterplan
The masterplan has been created by architect/planners Farrells and proposes the transformation of the Earls Court Project Area into four new urban villages and a high street, blending the spirit of the past with the best of tomorrow.
Newcastle Science Central
Planning has been secured for more than 1.9m sq ft of space, delivered by Newcastle Science City, and builds on the city’s scientific expertise. The Core, the first building on site, will be open for business in autumn 2014.
Public-Private Partnership of the Year
The Aylesbury Development Partnership,
which comprises Notting Hill Housing and Southwark council, advised by EC Harris, is delivering the regeneration of the Aylesbury Estate to provide 3,500 new homes.
Scape
Scape is a local authority-owned built environment specialist that offers a full suite of national procurement frameworks and innovative design solutions. Scape brings together the strongest delivery teams from the public and private sector to deliver exceptional outcomes for its clients.
The Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership
The partnership was created in 2010 to coordinate and drive forward the transformation of Nine Elms on the South Bank, central London’s newest district.
Planning Authority of the Year
Croydon Council
Croydon Council’s radically pragmatic approach to planning is being seen as an exemplar for how planning authorities should work across the UK.
London Borough of Southwark
Southwark has a mission to deliver a fairer future for all and has set about it with urgency. As a result, it has delivered more affordable homes over the past three years than any other London borough.
Sunderland City Council
The Sunderland Seafront Regeneration Project represents best-practice, local authority-led regeneration. In tackling the long-term decline of Roker and Seaburn, the project is underpinned by far-reaching community engagement and a clear, robust strategic direction.
Regional Deal of the Year
Formula E – Donington Park – Western Paddock Complex
In January 2014, Formula E Holdings, the operating company behind the pioneering FIA Formula E World Championship Series, chose Donington Park in Leicestershire as the base for its new global headquarters.
Moorfield Group
The letting of the 134,000 sq ft Five Brindleyplace to Deutsche Bank by Hines & Moorfield represents the second-largest office transaction in Birmingham city centre in 13 years and the largest letting since 2008.
Pears Group / Urban Splash
In April 2014, The Pears Group, working with Urban Splash Management, finalised the acquisition and £136m refinancing of the latter’s mostly commercial portfolio known as Braun.

There is no shortlist for these categories. The awards will be decided by the Estates Gazette editorial team and will be presented at the awards event at London Olympia on 16 October.
