URW draws up PBSA plans for Westfield Stratford City
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has launched a public consultation on plans to turn car parking space at Westfield Stratford City, E20, into a 530-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme.
The proposals focus on Car Park C on Montfichet Road and involve “development plans for new public spaces, potential areas for sport and student homes”.
In 2022, URW set out plans to unlock value from its shopping centres by “densifying” its flagship assets with office, hotel and residential development, as well as repurposing retail space and “extending to add high-growth alternative uses” where appropriate.

During the same year, the shopping centre owner received planning approval for its £1.3bn, 1,700-home scheme in White City, W12, to the north of Westfield London.
Penny Cameron, head of development UK at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, told EG: “As we continue to invest in the regeneration of Stratford, we look forward to sharing with our local community proposals for 530 student homes and newly-created public realm at Westfield Stratford City.
“Sustainability lies at the core of our ambition and in line with our Better Places ESG strategy, we look to deliver a best-in-class building created on the existing foundations of the centre, utilising existing infrastructure and services while delivering additional green rooftop spaces for public use.”
