URW gets nod for 520-bed PBSA at Westfield Stratford

The London Legacy Development Corporation has approved Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s plans to turn car parking space at Westfield Stratford City, E20, into a 520-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme. The plans were filed earlier this year for a 14-storey extension on top of Car Park C on Montfichet Road.  The plans include student amenity space and a flexible community, sports and leisure use area. Of the 520 student beds, 35% will be affordable. They will be split in 78% cluster bedrooms and 22% self-contained studio accommodation. URW designed the scheme in consultation with UCL, which opened its UCL East campus at East Bank in autumn of 2023. It is seeking to sign a nominations agreement with UCL, which would cover 51% of the bedrooms, including the affordable rooms. Image © AHMM
