US-China trade war takes its toll on America’s retailers

American retailers yesterday laid bare the rising pressures of the Sino-American trade war and online competition in second-quarter sales figures that fell short of forecasts.
Although results from TJX, owner of the discounter TK Maxx, and Kohl’s, the department stores chain, prompted share price falls for both companies, shares in Home Depot rose after it exceeded analysts’ profit expectations.
