The US Embassy in London has said Congress funding cuts will not affect the building of its £600m new embassy in Battersea.
Reports in the US had suggested the embassy project was under threat due to government spending cuts.
But the US Embassy in London said the new building, which is under construction, was always to have been funded from the sale of existing properties in the capital.
Qatari Diar bought the long leasehold of the existing US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, W1 , in 2009 for an undisclosed sum. The building was expected to fetch £400m.
In March 2012 the US Department of State sold residential properties at Boydell Court, NW8 , The Heights and Lyndhurst Road, both NW3, on a short-term sale-and-leaseback basis to private investor Sony Douer for £35m.
A US Embassy spokeswoman said: “The new Embassy building project is being funded by the proceeds of the sale of the current embassy and other US government properties in London, not through appropriated funds.
“The plan has always been to pay for the construction of the new London embassy from the proceeds of the sale of other US government properties in London.
“The proposed Omnibus spending bill does not provide any new, additional restrictions on this plan, and continues the requirement that the department report to Congress every six months on the status of the project.”
