British investment in US hardwoods is overtaking interest in UK forestry.
Forestry management firm Fountains plc expects to open a fifth office in north-east US in September, after one of its clients made a major acquisition in the region’s hardwoods.
Hardwoods are used to make fine furniture veneers, and offer 5-10% returns in real terms, said Bruce Jacobs, president of US firm Fountain Forestry Inc, who has been in the UK this month drumming up business.
