The Gatwick Express rail link has acquired a rather useful ally in its fight to remain open in the shape of the US government, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The rail service has been threatened with the axe since September last year, when the Strategic Rail Authority called for its closure to ease congestion on the busy London to Brighton line.
