US homes giant Centex is injecting $100m (£61m) into the European residential market to become the first trans-European housebuilder.
The quoted corporation has opened an office in Windlesham, Surrey, and through new subsidiary Centex Homes International it plans joint ventures with private housebuilders in France, Germany and the UK.
Former Beazer director Stewart Baseley is in charge of the UK office. He said the corporation plans to expand into Holland, Spain, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic. Beazley said Centex hopes to get a foothold in the British market through joint ventures.
