US Marshalls help WHSmith seize airport stores

Stationary-to-sweeties retailer WH Smith has doubled its international travel business, buying Marshall Retail Group for $400m.

Marshalls has 170 shops in North America, 59 of them inside airports. It made $84m in sales last year.

The deal follows WH Smith’s purchase of US business Inmotion last October.

WH Smith has 586 outlets in British airports and railway stations and a further 433 in international markets. The high street business has 576 shops.
