US sandwich bar to open outlets across south east

American restaurant chain Arby’s has targeted the south east of England for its first chain of sandwich bars in Europe under a franchise deal with Sybra Restaurants.

US parent group Triarc is now in negotiations for the first five sites, which include Sutton, Reading, Uxbridge and Slough. The first outlet is due to open in April 2000.

The company plans to open 102 restaurants across southern England over the next ten years and is considering expansion into mainland Europe.

The firm is scouring the area for 185 sq m to 278 sq m (2,000 sq ft to 3,000 sq ft) units in prime retail locations.

King Sturge Retail is advising Triarc.
