US science giant tests Grtr Manchester area for research hub

Massachusetts-based molecular science company Waters Corporation is scouring Greater Manchester for a hub to house an international research centre.

The US firm is looking for 185,000 sq ft, to be evenly split between offices and a research and development facility.

The building would be used as Waters’ worldwide base for research into mass spectrometry technologies – a method used to study the physical, chemical or biological properties of various compounds.

Waters is concentrating its search within a five-mile radius from Manchester Airport, and plans to purchase either a site for development or a completed building in which to consolidate its three Greater Manchester operations.

These comprise two buildings in Wythenshawe and one in Altrincham, totalling around 100,000 sq ft.

Goodman’s 85-acre Manchester Business Park beside the airport is understood to be Waters’ favoured loaction, but it is working on a shortlist of locations which should be finalised later this month.

Lambert Smith Hampton is advising on the search.
