Invest UK says the US economic slowdown is responsible for the number of American companies considering investing in the UK dropping for the first time in at least five years.
It believes the impact will eventually affect the number of investment schemes that proceed.
It could be serious for the UK because the US accounts for half of all foreign direct investment.
