Vail Williams and Hughes Ellard join forces

Advisers Vail Williams and Hughes Ellard have merged, in a move aimed at strengthening their position in the south of England.

Hughes Ellard’s four directors – Gary Jeffries, Carl Walker, Russell Mogridge and Nik Cox – will become equity partners in Vail Williams, while the rest of the team of 25 will take on equivalent roles in Vail Williams’ Southampton or Portsmouth offices.

The combined Solent team will total 50, while Vail Williams’ national team will expand to more than 160 across eight offices.

Vail Williams bought business rates specialist Bisset Moffatt Hill in 2016 and the general rating division of Ruddle Merz last year.

Its latest merger is part of its plan to generate 33% more turnover over the next three years with a target of £17m. Hughes Ellard will bring an additional £3m in revenue.

Matthew Samuel-Camps, managing partner of Vail Williams, said: “By bringing together Vail Williams and Hughes Ellard, we have created a bigger, stronger, more resilient team with a compelling collaborative culture that will continue to deliver a fully comprehensive service across all areas of property consultancy to clients on the South Coast and beyond.”

Gary Jeffries, managing director of Hughes Ellard, added: “It is great news for Hughes Ellard to be joining forces with such an established and successful former ‘rival’. We look forward to building on that success with our new colleagues and partners.”
