VIDEO: A new model of London featuring 170,000 buildings and an interactive light show has been unveiled in the capital today.
The 40ft-long exhibit was launched by New London Architecture at its galleries at The Building Centre, WC1.
It represents more than 32 square miles and 19 boroughs and spreads from Kings Cross in the North to Peckham in the south, the Royal Docks in the east to Old Oak Common in the west.
Built by Pipers with data supplied by Ordnance Survey, the model was first seen on the London stand at this year’s MIPIM convention in Cannes.
But, it has now been unveiled in its permanent home, and features a sophisticated projection and lighting system allowing buildings and major infrastructure projects to be digitally animated across its surface.
NLA says the new model is the city’s only physical manifestation of how London will look as new developments are given the go-ahead.
NLA chairman Peter Murray said: “This model will be a spectacular tool for all those who want to know more about London, who want to understand how it works and how it is shaping up for the future. It will appeal to the public, to professionals and visitors to London alike.”
