Viking move in Southport

Viking Property Group are proposing a new 120,000-sq ft shopping scheme for a site in Chapel Street — the prime retailing pitch of Southport.

Working in partnership with the landowners, British Rail Property Board and the Greater Manchester County Superannuation Fund, the developers are proposing a centre of 33 units with two major stores of around 40,000 sq ft. To the rear of the site — including part of the present railway station — there would be a multi-storey car park with 700 spaces.

Bernard Thorpe are advising the superannuation fund, and Molyneux Rose Viking.

Last month, Sibec Developments announced proposals for a 600,000-sq ft shopping complex for Southport.

The site is 90% owned by Sibec who have submitted a planning application and claim to have the backing of Sefton council.
