Virgin Group is to invest £8.5m in a 20-screen cinema complex in Sheffield.
The “megaplex” will open in November and will include retail and restaurant facilities. The complex will compete with Warner Village’s planned 14-screen £12m multiplex, due to open in spring 2000.
Virgin plans to open eight cinema complexes next year, including four “megaplexes” with more than 15 screens. Warner plans around 30 new complexes and megaplexes by 2001.
