Virgin is building a 4,645 sq m (50,000 sq ft) cinema at Johnsey Estates’ Newport Retail Park to the east of the town.
The move is part of Virgin’s plan to open 20 multiplex cinemas in the UK before 2000.
Virgin has signed a 25 year lease at a rent of £96.80 per sq m (£9 per sq ft).
