Von Essen’s Hunstrete House goes into liquidation

Von Essen Hotels’ Hunstrete House hotel near Bath has gone into voluntary liquidation.

The hotel had been operated by Hunstrete House Limited under an agreement with Von Essen Investments, owner of collapsed luxury chain Von Essen Hotels.

However, the license agreement was terminated after the business suffered losses for several years.

The liquidation has no implications for the continued operations of the remaining 26 UK-based Von Essen hotels, which continue to operate.

Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group appointed administrators from Ernst & Young last month after Von Essen Hotels failed to make interest payments on £250m of borrowings.

Charles Prew, chief executive of Von Essen Hotels, said: “The combination of notice being served by von Essen Investments and the continuing losses of the hotel mean that the administrators could no longer continue to support the business. As a result regrettably, there has been no option but for the company to go into liquidation.”
