A portion of the Trocadero at 7-14 Coventry Street, W1, is to become a spy museum focused on hacking and cybersecurity.

Dp9 is acting on behalf of Cipher Corp on the proposal to redevelop the Grade II listed buildings into the museum, to include retail facilities and a café.

The scheme was approved by Westminster city council’s planning committee, which welcomed the addition of another museum to the West End.

The Trocadero was launched in the early 1980s as a tourist-oriented entertainment, cinema and shopping complex but now much of the 399,998 sq ft site lies vacant.

Planning permission was granted to freeholders Criterion Capital in 2012 for the development of a mixed-used scheme featuring hotel, rooftop bar, retail and residential on Rupert Street and Shaftsbury Avenue, expected to open in 2018.
