Waitrose gets all-clear in Salisbury

The Secretary of State has approved a Waitrose development on the site of the former livestock market in Salisbury.

The retailer plans a 130,000-sq ft scheme comprising an 80,000-sq ft Waitrose store and a 50,000-sq ft non-food retail unit as well as 950 parking spaces.

As part of the agreement to develop the store, Waitrose must first build a new livestock market for Salisbury District Council on an alternative site in Netherhampton Road. Construction, expected to start in February, will take nine months.

The project marketing and negotiations were completed in 1993 prior to the Secretary of State’s decision to call in the proposed development.

Donaldsons acted for the district council in the disposal, initially agreed conditionally in June 1993.
