Labour has lambasted Waitrose for “acting in a way that will further destroy the British high street”.
Andy Sawford, shadow communities minister, claims the myWaitrose loyalty card, which entitles holders to free coffees even if they do not buy anything else and a free newspaper if they spend more than £5, steals trade from small high street shops. Waitrose said Sawford was “misguided”.
