Wales and Scotland to retain investment independence

Government ministers responsible for Wales and Scotland have won their fight to keep control of inward investment projects for their regions.

The Treasury and the Department of Trade and Industry had wanted to seize control of Government bids for inward investment. But while both the Scottish and the Welsh secretaries have agreed that there should be greater “transparency” between departments negotiating for projects, the DTI has given up its fight to take more control. Treasury officials are also said to be on the retreat.
