The Welsh government is to launch a £170m shared-equity loan scheme – an analogue to the Help to Buy scheme – on 2 January 2014.
Scotland and Wales have their own Help to Buy plans. In England, the government has been providing equity loans of up to 20% of the price of housing since April.
The initiative will be funded by the Welsh government and will allow first-time buyers and existing home purchasers to buy new-build homes up to a £300,000 cap with as little as a 5% deposit.
The cap is set at half the rate of the English scheme, which stands at £600,000.
Builders wishing to participate can register from today, with the scheme set to conclude on 31 March 2016.
