The market’s tough but there are worse things than spending a Friday drinking Peroni. That was the verdict from guests at Estates Gazette’s annual Cardiff reception last month.
Around 60 of the Welsh property industry’s finest enjoyed the food and booze at the Park Plaza hotel.
But worries about the market were not far from their minds. “We’re one away from getting out the Yellow Pages, ringing up people and asking, ‘do you want a shed?’” quipped one.
That said, there is plenty to keep them busy. With the fate of the city’s convention centre in the balance, the BBC poised to decide on its 140,000 sq ft requirement, and the future of Capital Tower up for debate, it probably won’t be dull. On Capital Tower, the market was split on whether new owner Topland Estates should keep the landmark as offices or convert it to student accommodation.
There was also talk of the top floors, from which you can see both Severn crossings, becoming a high-end restaurant. But with Admiral in situ until at least 2015, it could be a while before agents are enjoying their meal with a view. Listen to their views on our blog. www.estatesgazette.com/blogs/focus
