Warner Village has been confirmed as operator of the 15-screen multiplex anchor for the Coxside leisure scheme in Plymouth. The announcement means that Coxside is back in the race with the Mill Bay site in the city centre to open Plymouth’s first multiplex.
Coxside developer Citygrove has signed up Leisure Village Cinemas of Australia as first tenant of the 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) leisure scheme, which will also feature a healthclub, five restaurants and a bowling alley.
Citygrove signed a £9m development deal with British Gas Property Division on the former gas works site at Coxside, following the failure of Morrison Developments’ orginal proposals for the site to get off the ground.
Morrison is understood to have tried to renegotiate a contract with BG after it signed up Virgin Cinemas to anchor its scheme. Citygrove had been talking to both Virgin and Warner about running a multiplex on the site.
Citygrove has now submitted a planning proposal for the site. BG Property Division aims to have completed decontaminating the site by September.
King Sturge & Co represented BG Property Division.
