MIPIM UK 2015: London needs to allocate more land for flexible rental housing, according to Jon Gooding, chief executive of Dolphin Living.
Gooding said that housing costs in London are driving people into a form of housing poverty, with home ownership, shared ownership and market rent all beyond the means of Mr Average.
Gooding said: “Do not dismiss the protesters outside. We need to allocate land for rented housing at all sorts of levels. Not simply for social rent, I think we all agree that the old-fashioned model of social rent is probably out of date now.
“But we need to have affordable, good-quality housing available to people at rents that reflect the incomes they are earning.
“And we and others beginning to deliver flexible, personal rent models that can deliver that.”
Gooding said that Dolphin and other operators are beginning to deliver flexible and personalised rental models that are within reach of Londoners, and that these projects can be delivered without grant and subsidy.
“Provided we can have access to the land in the first place.”
